I've had a long break from blogging! I find that my schedule may begin to allow for me to blog a little here and there vs. hardly ever.

ReplyDelete1. What is your number one complaint about trying to learn and apply this method (to any curriculum you are using)? At first, that would have been the "too much time" factor. However, the more I do each lesson now, the more I appreciate the flexibility I have here, and the more I realize how perfectly this freedom and flexibility with the curriculum suit our personality and needs as a family. So, the time investment becomes just that - an investment vs a burden. Now, a few months into it, I would say that the lack of community of other PA parents is what I'm feeling the most. With all the different internet forums, fb groups, etc., I had become so used to a vast community of other moms who were experienced with what I was doing, and *someone* always seemed available to answer questions, bounce ideas off of, or just chat. So right now, that's what's lacking for me.
2. What is the number one problem with this method that you would love to have solved for you? I know I'm beating the same drum, but the lack of community is my biggest issue right now, as I start out. :-)
3. What would you like to see as a part of a Principle Approach curriculum that would make things easier on you? A significantly updated forum, maybe at the FACE website, that is more in-line with other user forums out there, easy to use, and active. (For example, I spend a lot of time on the Well-Trained Mind forum, and find it HUGELY helpful and easy to navigate). The existing forum at FACE is very, very confusing for me.
4. What is the biggest thing that I could (try to) do to help serve you? I LOVE seeing your notebook pages, your sample lesson plans, your planning binder. When you have time to do posts on the "behind the scenes" stuff you do, the photos and descriptions are SO VALUABLE to me!
5. Can you think of anything else to share with me that is important to you which I may not have listed in this survey? Not that this is a "problem" exactly, but I would love to hear some discussion comparing the history outlines for the elementary grades (K, 1st, 2nd is where we're looking right now) with the history outline advocated in Well-Trained Mind (cycling chronologically through history every 4 years). I'm very conflicted about the matter, see serious pros and cons on both sides, and can't seem to find much discussion on this. :-)

DeleteI'll consider what to write for a blog post regarding the Well-Trained Mind history outline vs. What F.A.C.E. has laid out for the course. Hopefully I can have it written and posted some time during Spring Break.
Notebook pages are a great help. I love your art ideas also.
