Stars.

My friend Gina over at A Cherished Keeper did a lovely post about The Poetry of Astronomy.

The poetry of astronomy. This is a lovely thought! I have wondered at and tied astronomy {all of creation really} and visual art together, but had not wondered at it poetically. It makes so much sense though as God spoke the world into existence. 

Cool Daddy and I just watched a fascinating study on the Star of Bethlehem which I am sharing with you in this post. We'll share it with our children soon... and beyond a shadow of doubt our son, Scientist, will be glued to it! But first, I'd like us to define some key terms:

Webster's 1828 Dictionary:
star
1. An apparently small luminous body in the heavens, that appears in the night, or when its light is not obscured by clouds or lost in the brighter effulgence of the sun. Stars are fixed or planetary. The fixed stars are known by their perpetual twinkling, and by their being always in the same position in relation to each other. The planets do not twinkle, and they revolve about the sun. The stars are worlds, and their immense numbers exhibit the astonishing extent of creation and of divine power.

4. Having the nature of a planet; erratic or revolving.

2. Irregular; mutable.

We learned about *retrograde motion* {irregular} and it pertains to the words we just defined.

The Bible says a lot about stars and a whole lot more about the star of Bethlehem in prophecy than I ever picked up on or was taught. So, I will leave it to Rick Larson to explain his Bible study, research, hypothesis.... his discovery of the poetry of astronomy. I'm not certain how accurate it all is, but it is very interesting!

Reason and Relate:

Every single word in the Bible is there for a reason. Every.single.word. It's exciting to me to learn about these things! 

My heart pours out praise to my Creator:

"When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;

What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?" Psalm 8:3-4

I am continually amazed at how the Lord's Feasts are prophetic in nature. It makes so much sense that they would reveal things to us... because the Lord instituted them. They are His. What forethought He gave to everything He has created... His calendar... everything!

Learning more and more about Him and His ways... I cannot help but seek after him more:

"Seek him that maketh the seven stars and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night: that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The Lord is his name:"
Amos 5:8

The Bible is poetic... there is poetry all around us... even in astronomy. And we are reminded that his steadfast love endures forever.

"To him who made the great lights, for his steadfast love endures forever;"
Psalm 136:7
