Athanasius
Church history is worth our time to learn, in my opinion. Do you find it to be so, too?
Last year, our family studied about the Reformer, Lady Jane Grey (the Nine Day Queen).
This year, we are learning about Athanasius. Our main resource for our study? It's this informative, concisely researched and written book by Simonetta Carr. The content is elegantly complimented with impressive illustrations by artist Matt Abraxas.
A wide window is opened for us to learn about the life he chose to lead and the persecution he endured from his childhood into his adulthood.
We are encouraged by Yahweh's protection over his life during perilous times. Reading about his life reminds us to be praying for our modern day persecuted brothers and sisters in Christ.

It's so important for kids to understand that they're part of something so much bigger, so much more vast than our own church family.
ReplyDeleteIt's important for our family to study church history so that we can see our place in the timeline of Christianity, and to help give strength, faith, and understanding when we see or experience persecution and oppression in our time.
ReplyDeleteLove having the freedom to homeschool! We have studied old testament and are now moving into early church history. One of the reasons that I want to teach my children church history is so that they can see what the early church was like. Hopefully, we can learn together what our church body should be modeled after today.
ReplyDeleteIt is important to teach our children church history so that they know where we have been, the accomplishments made, along with the mistakes, in order to make better decisions and not repeat history with our failures.
ReplyDeleteOne reason is to combat the singular secular view that is promulgated in education. Another reason is to give my children examples to follow.
ReplyDeleteIf you and your children do not know church history, you have no knowledge of God's hand in using individuals to further HIS story ( Gospel ). Knowledge ( HIS truth) is a powerful weapon against satan.
