Lessons of Olympic Proportions

Well, the Olympics are rolling around again. I remember watching ice skating and gymnastics in my youth with my family. Once in a while, we would sit in front of the television and view some of the skiing competitions, too. Do you know that in all those years I never had learned about the history of the Olympics? Had you? I'm offering a free Bible Principle study on the Olympic Games and I'll share with you why...

Olympics: Then and Now

a Bible Principles Unit Study

{Thought I'd just help give these ancient folks the privacy they didn't give themselves. Eh hem.}

Being True to Myself...

I didn't quite know what I'd put together for the 2014 Winter Olympics Resources round-up for the Old School House Crew . As I researched about the history of the Olympics, I learned a lot of... interesting... things. Since I don't mind researching, examining things, and pondering them- I decided I would tackle this topic and work through it for myself and then go over it with my children. I had some questions and I wanted to find answers to them. So, I chose to compare the ancient Games to the modern Games (winter or otherwise). All that to say, I hope you find this to be a unique, beneficial, and somewhat challenging resource for your family. :-)

What's in the Bible Principles Study on the Olympics?

Contained in this download is a key for parents to help them guide the lessons. This key also includes hyperlinks to a few resources we are using during our studies.

Notebook pages for your students. These help to guide your students with the 4R method (Research, Reason, Relate, Record). Fun activities are used for the notebook pages.

This study can be done with students of varying ages. You certainly don't have to have your younger children do a lot of writing. Maybe you could write their thoughts down for them!

This study is done in a way which allows you and your students to come to your own conclusions.

P.S.
My hope is to help encourage others to test *ideas* against Scripture, too. If you would like to share the conclusion your family came to, or thoughts you ponder on this topic, please leave a comment below. :-)

Thanksgiving Day Printable {Word Art}- Our Christian Heritage

Happy November! One of my favorite days regarding a historical event is coming up...

Thanksgiving Day!

It's not about turkey. It's not about stuffing. It's not about Macey's Parade.

It's about the Gospel moving westward. It's about our Christian Heritage. It's about God's Providential Hand with the forming of this nation on Biblical Principles. It's about... each word contained within this printable word art.

I'm aware that the contrary is often taught. BUT, I am also aware that when we take ownership of our own education and we read from original source documents, that much light is shed on the subject (a great resource is Teaching & Learning America's Christian History).

Do I idoloize the Pilgrims? No, they were imperfect people, too. However, all throughout History (HIS Story) God has used imperfect people to carry out His plans.

For you today, I have designed a free printable Bible Principle word art for Thanksgiving Day.  I hope you like it! I'd love to know how you plan on using it. In a frame? Decoupage it on something? Use it as wrapping paper for gift of thankfulness which you bless someone with? Leave a comment below! :-)

and please let us know what you think of it!

Blessings,

#Reformation Day #Freebie Printable Bookmarks

Bookmarks are wonderful! I know because I love to read, my husband loves to read, and well... you probably can guess that we are raising children to embrace a love of reading. When I'm short on bookmarks, all sorts of random little things laying around impose as proper holding places. Somehow, oddities just can't quite pull the job off in the same way. :-)

These bookmarks are designed with the Principle Approach® method of using a Leading Idea and Bible Principles for teaching and learning. Hopefully you'll find them useful when discussing information about different Reformers with your children.

They may make pretty neat little gifts and reminders about these people and this time in history.

And they look lovely against the Christian Biographies For Young Readers Books by Simonetta Carr. Have you entered the giveaway for her book, Athanasius? Click here to enter while there is still time!

*Card stock is recommended.
*Laminating them is an option, too.
*Be sure to change your printer option for paper direction to landscape (otherwise they'll print out to be mini bookmarks).

Blessings!

Fall Pumpkin Writing Prompts

Can you believe fall is right around the corner?! I love the season of fall and I thought I'd help ya'll kick off the school year with a little freebie. :)

I was inspired by this blog post at lovingmylifeasmotherandwife several years ago and I created my own version on a white foam board. But... wall space can easily be taken up with nifty things like this!

You can also print pumpkin prompts from lovingmylifeasmotherandwife! You'll find a much larger variety of prompts at her blog. :)

So... this year I decided to create a version just right for filing in my children's notebooks!

I might stretch it to where they can use one a week with a bonus pumpkin prompt. Or perhaps I'll have them use the prompts during the first week of lessons. Hmmm....

This is how they are assembled...
