Saturday Science- Peeps!

 Caution!

If you're attached to Peeps... this is NOT for the faint of heart.

With it being summertime and all, we've had some family time roasting mallows in the backyard. Our kids received some Peeps from their Nana and our oldest asked, "Hey Mom! Why don't we try roasting Peeps and see what happens?"

"Sure!" I reply, thinking that this would be a fun opportunity to reinforce our recent lesson in science, "But let's go through the Scientific Method and see what we come up with!"

So, the kids all hurriedly went through the steps... (decently and in order I might add).

State the problem: "What will happen when a Peep is roasted?"

State the hypothesis: "We think it will change colors and taste good."

They tested their solution: The kids roasted their Peeps and mallows over the fire.

State why you think the experiment turned out the way it did: "The Peeps did not change colors. Maybe because it's just sugar. BUT the flames did change colors!"

Now, I have never had Crème Brûlée (which is French for burnt cream of all things) but a friend of mine has and she said she thought the Peeps must have tasted just like it. I looked up a recipe for Burnt Cream... er... Crème Brûlée and I think that Peeps Brûlée would just be a simpler and more fun dessert when having guests over. But maybe that's just me. :)
