Sparkle Like a Shoe!

Lately, our younger daughters have began to complain about each other... over petty things. As I prayed about this, the word transform came to mind. I'm God's project... continually being transformed by Him... as are our children. Exactly how does one teach this concept to a preschooler and a kindergartner?

Well, the answer came to me in the store down the shoe isle. See, we were shoe shopping and our girls wanted sparkly shoes. All that was on clearance were *plain* shoes. Their little faces seemed so down. They wanted to sparkle... to shine.

I could relate. I love to and desire to sparkle and shine, too. That's not to say that I want to wear sparkly shoes (*wink*), but you know and I know that being transformed by God causes us to sparkle and shine.

That's when the idea came to me! The Bible Principle of being transformed could be taught by snazzying up some shoes.

Leading Idea:
No matter how one looks, they may be transformed by God to sparkle and shine for Him!

Bible Principle:
"And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God." ~Romans 12:2

Webster's 1828 Dictionary:
TRANSFORM'ED, pp. Changed in form or external appearance; metamorphosed; transmuted; renewed.

Here's how I did it:

I talked with the girls about how the shoes were similar to how people may appear. Just "plain" or "ordinary."

But when Yeshuah's Spirit dwells within us and we walk in obedience to Him, we shine. We are created as individuals (the Principle of Individuality here) and so we will all sparkle differently.  The shoes will shine when we add some sparkle to them, but they'll sparkle differently because each girl chooses the colors they want and how much sparkle.

The self-adhesive acrylic gems are only $1.00 at the craft store! The various sizes are perfect for this type of project. I pulled out my supply and the girls chose from it.

I placed the gems where the girls liked them. Then I had to remove the self-adhesive sticky on the back of them to get them ready for the glue. I used Fusion as it's non-toxic and would work well with surface. I've had this adhesive on hand for quite a while so I really don't recall how much it runs for.

It takes Fusion 24 hours to completely bond, so I explained that while the shoes shined and sparkled, there were still things taking place that they couldn't see happen right away (the glue drying). And that they would be ready later. I explained how that's kind of how it is with people. While we sparkle and shine, over time God continues to make changes inside of our hearts which causes us to shine and sparkle more.

Transformed!

So, do you think you will try this project with your girls?

Blessings!

  1. This is one of the best posts to show how the PA to homeschooling is truly and utterly Holy Spirit led. Thank you for sharing this wonderful blessing with us readers and PA moms! My husband decided he liked the PA (Noah Plan) best and I was scared of his choice at first... why not Heart of Dakota? Where it's all laid out, open and go?! :) God has other plans for me and His children He has entrusted to me! Again, thanks this post. It just put my mind at ease that God can be trusted more than I was actually trusting Him with.
