Webster's 1828 Dictionary:

SAND, n.

1. Any mass or collection of fine particles of stone, particularly of fine particles of silicious stone, but not strictly reduced to powder or dust.
That finer matter called sand, is no other than very small pebbles.

What does the Bible say about sand?

It ought to cause us to be reminded to have a reverent fear of God:
Jeremiah 5:22

A visual concept of infinity is given to us:
Genesis 32:12
Hosea 1:10
Romans 9:27

A mathematical physical concept of weight is given to us and likened to that of a fool's wrath:
Proverbs 27:3

It is often used to describe a multitude of people:
1 Samuel 13:5

It is used to describe countless wisdom given by God:
1 Kings 4:29

And we know the wise man did not build  his house on the sand:

Personal Application:

I love visiting the beach for multiple reasons. It surly is one of many places to ponder and stand in awe of my Heavenly Father. I see from Scriptural uses of sand that math points to Him (weight and measurement of sand), art points to Him (beauty and visual representations), language points to Him (words with which to form images in my mind), geography points to Him (sand is a portion of the earth), history points to Him (sand has been around since Creation). Sand is more evidence that no subject is *neutral* and set apart from Him.

Again, I am reminded how He will give us an endless supply of wisdom when we seek Him and ask Him for it.

I find it very interesting that most of the verses refer specifically to the sand of the sea or the sand of the sea shore vs. desert sand. I don't have any thoughts on this aspect yet. What about you?

Blessings!
