Principle of Individualty: Friday Art Frenzy Link Up!

Happy Friday!

The Principle of Individuality as seen in art is our focus for today! Since I'm teaching Bible Principles in Art at our homeschool co-op, I'll be sharing about projects we do there.

Enjoy some pics from our group lesson!

 Exercise #1
The challenge was to draw shapes anywhere in
any size on their paper as they wanted to. Then they colored them in.

consisting of images made up of only circles, squares and triangles.

We Talked About How...
  • Individual shapes are used in art to make up a composition,
  • We are all individuals and our art will reflect who we are (preferences for color use, texture, composition, design choices, style, etc.)
  • I also tied in the Bible Principle about how the origin of shapes comes from God. We learn about this in the account of Creation found in Genesis 1. Different shapes (elements) were designed when God created the world. This is a variation of my lesson from a couple of years back.

  • We Talked About How...

    • After a large piece of abstract art was created by teams, we discussed how our individual contributions to the art community can create a beautiful group of art which may glorify God!
    • Copying is not allowed! While we will all be creating pieces of art based on a theme, everyone must use their individual tastes when applying techniques which are taught!
    • Perfectionism is not allowed! (This is something I'm still working on for myself! Art is a wonderful way to learn this!)
    • Knowing when your piece is just right and completed is an individual thing. It's your art which is an extension of you and only you will know this! (I forgot to note this during the co-op meeting... but will try to remember next time.)

    Important Things to Note:

The Art Relay allows you to observe (in general) how many steps your kid or group of kids can most easily follow directions for composing a piece. This will help you break it down for teaching purposes to suit your kids.

Even some of the simple one or two-step designs used for the relay may not be interpreted as exact when a student draws it. And that's okay!

So, will you give these exercises a try? I'd love for you to share some pictures of how your project went! You can *link up* from your blog by clicking on the *add your link* button at the bottom of this post. It's FREE to do so! :)

Blessings and Have Fun!
